We Want to Power up the Planet

On September 11, 2018, we hit the green at the Broadmoor Golf Course to promote the Power Up the Planet initiative alongside our friends at Digital Link! While the day was rather cold, we managed to keep our spirits high by watching golfers take a bat to old, worn out electronics we’ve collected through PUP.

BNI Alberta North graciously hosted their annual Golf Classic Tournament providing members with the opportunity to network throughout different chapters, while raising money for charity. Roughly 124 golfers stopped by Hole 12, and while not all took a swing at the old electronics, many were interested in the Power Up the Planet initiative.

For those who aren’t aware of what Power Up the Planet is, it is an initiative to reduce e-waste and the negative impact improperly recycled electronics have on the environment. Through the PUP initiative, Digital Link is able to recycle used and/or unwanted electronics properly by disposing them or refurbishing them. The electronics that can be refurbished are donated to non-profit organizations and charities, while those not suitable for donation are recycled in a responsible, secure, and environmentally friendly manner.

Best of all, Digital Link will pick up your unwanted and ready to be recycled electronics free of charge.

We’d like to thank BNI Alberta North for providing us with this opportunity to reach out to their members and inform them of the Power Up the Planet initiative. We are extremely pleased with the interest everyone showed and managed to raise $50 for the BNI Foundation during the tournament to help support teachers and education.

This year of 2020 is proving to be a year of an unknown type. Protecting our health and those of the ones we love is a great responsibility so social distancing is worth it. There is also the snow. When will it end here in Edmonton area? At a time of social distancing for healthy and safety, what can we do when a weekend like Easter is near? Well, it might be time to get creative and learn more about technology at our fingertips to be sure connection happens regularly. Here are some ideas to get you started if you are a bit rusty like me. Knock Knock jokes Knock Knock jokes are a video opportunity waiting to happen. I recently rediscovered these corny sources of humor while searching the Internet. Inspired, I video recorded myself saying “knock, knock,” and sent to my almost five-year-old great nephew via his Mom’s smartphone. In a little while, he responded with “Who’s there?” in his own video. From there, we traded short videos until hitting the punch line. It was a much-needed connection in the middle of a day for me. My great nephew and his parents, who are working from home and entertaining their two young active boys, appreciated the diversion, too.
